Hopefully people will start to understand that collars like this are
horrible and inhumane. Even used "properly" collars like this can still
cause a great deal of pain and discomfort to your dog. If people can't
teach their dog with postive reinforcement training then maybe they
shouldn't have a dog. Dogs become happier with postive training. I love my
harness it helps me a lot with training. In my opinion people who use these
collars should use them on themselves and feel what their dog feels. Shock,
prong, and choke collars are an easy way out (if they even work). You
shouldn't use the easy way out with dog training.

Ridiculous. Any good collar has adjustable levels. These people are trying

If you can do this with a shock collar, why wouldn't you just go without
the collar and have the dog respond in the exact same way to a sound you
make, such as smoochy noise or something similar? You seem like you would
be really good at using positive reinforcement methods with your patience
and fairness, I just don't see the need for shock at all. Anybody can buy
these collars, and the average owner just doesn't have the skill, patience
and timing to correctly use something like this. It seems dangerous to
advocate its use, especially when most people only want to use one so they
can push a button to 'stop' their dog's unwanted behaviour instead of
actually train the dog.

I have to disagree with everyone saying this is not abuse! I have used
choke chains and prong collars on some of the dogs i train and then i put
on a halti or an easy walk harness and the different is extremely
noticeable! The dogs i train from Red Zone dogs to common household
chihuahuas are much better behaved on a device like a halti or easy walk
harness! I thank Victoria Stillwell and many other positive reinforcement
trainers for helping me tach my dog the positive way! my chihuahua was an
inch away from being put down beause she was child and male agressive and
now she is a well behaved 1 year old dog. I used prong collars and choke
chains on her because i was on the verge of breaking then i used her
methods and she is such a better dog now! along with my German short-haired
pointers (2) and cocker spaniel!

prong collars distribute preasure more evenly around the dogs troath... you
shouldnt use a prong collar if your dog pulls, or if you have a rough hand.
But it is GREAT if you want to relieve the dogs throath area from to much
preassure when out walking with a dog that does not pull. Btw If you have a
dog hat pulls, dont go trying to fix it with a bloody collar! TRAIN IT.

The correct term for that collar, (she calls a choke collar), is "Training
Collar". It is not meant to be used on daily walks, but only for training
your dog. Corrections are NOT done by letting the dog choke him or
herself, but the human holding the leash does a snap with the leash, (the
collar has to be put on correctly), the dog will hear each link make a
sound when snapped, and released. People who don't know how to use this
training device should not be using it, only then does it become abusive.

This is a perfect example of just how you condition a dog to a clicker or

like the "click' that's always followed by a treat, they hear it rooms

This is a beautiful dog!! I'm one of the biggest animal lovers you will
ever meet- especially dogs. But this whole rage against shock collars is
so very moronic. It's not as painful as it is on humans since the dogs have
fur. And to respond to the lady down below saying that positive
reinforcement works better cause this dog doesn't listen that well-
so-the-hell what? He listens all the same eventually in the end. Some
people don't have the time and/or money to train their dogs like that. This
guy is essentially just using it as a "safety feature" so if his dogs
starts to run away, he can stop it. I'm sure this lady would rather see
the dog do circus tricks and walk on two legs on command, but not everybody
wants their dog to have to do that

I disagree. Two weeks ago I adopted a dog that had been a stray. He's a
great dog and I've been working hard with him making lots of progress. He
is already great on a leash and obedient in other close circumstances. The
problem is, that when he gets of the leash and gets going, it is very very
difficult to get his attention and keep him from just running as he
pleases. I'm currently shopping for a shock collar because this
unacceptable behavior cannot continue; most importantly for his safety.

save the tortures to your dog... in my country if you take your dog out for

Hey, what ever works - i just hope this solves the issue. I would always
recommend aiming for the method of solving the neighbours barking dog
problems as easily and effortlessly as possible. As this unit is fairly
discreet and affects the dogs only it has been a great option. But go the
drums if you can stand the noise and effort too. Good innovative thinking.

Does it work on cats? My neighbor has 3 cats that are always running around
our home. and they like to poop in the grass. I was going to shoot them
with a paint ball gun. One at a time when I spotted them. But I don't want
to hurt them. And let the neighbor know it was me. I was going to use some
snares that would hang them up in a tree, but animal control would charge
me with a crime. Maybe I'll put a stature of my other neighbors wife out
back. She's so ugly, it would scare off a skunk too.

Have you tried a Martingale collar? It is similar to a choke chain but it
tightens when the dog pulls and loosens when the dog isn't pulling, so if
he tries to slip out of it, it will get tighter so he can't. I would most
DEFINITELY watch my Loose Leash Walking video though and start working on
teaching your dog not to pull on the leash. That will help more than any
type of special collar. Also, harnesses will only make pulling worse
because they can throw all of their body weight into pulling.

Some trainers will go a step further with an E-collar (shock collar), but
I've never found a need for it. Some swear by them, some refuse to use
them. Everyone uses different tools depending on what they were taught with
and what they find works for them. Ultimately the decision is yours, so you
should do your research and talk to a few trainers before deciding, since
everyone's opinion is going to be different. Its up to you to do what is

I try to use the least amount of force to get the job done, so I start with
a regular buckle collar. If that doesn't work, I upgrade to a Martingale
collar (fabric choker), if that doesn't work, I upgrade to a choke chain,
then a prong chain. For me, a prong is a last resort, so if you desensitize
your dog to prong corrections, you're not doing something right and should
consult a trainer. I am able to use a regular collar for 99% of my clients.
It also depends on what you are trying to teach.

frequency for people to hear. We have uploaded a new version of the video
without the annoying sound, showing you what it is really like for humans
when used in ultrasonic only mode. We have linked to that version in the
