what about martingales or half check chains? their basically fabric prong
collars but without the prongs.

Hopefully people will start to understand that collars like this are
horrible and inhumane. Even used “properly” collars like this can still
cause a great deal of pain and discomfort to your dog. If people can’t
teach their dog with postive reinforcement training then maybe they
shouldn’t have a dog. Dogs become happier with postive training. I love my
harness it helps me a lot with training. In my opinion people who use these
collars should use them on themselves and feel what their dog feels. Shock,
prong, and choke collars are an easy way out (if they even work). You
shouldn’t use the easy way out with dog training.

A good positive reinforcement trainer can train any dog without using
punishment or pain. The people who say it’s “just throwing cookies at the
dog, thinking it will be okay”, read a book! Get knowledge before you
attack something that is scary and new to you……

Breaks my heart when I see people use choke, print, or shock collars . Why
anyone would want to cause their dog pain is astounding to me.

I used a shock collar on my dog to stop her chasing sheep in the lambing
season, as I know two dogs in my area have been shot by a farmer as its his
right to do so.

Wouldnt use anything for walking tho, im happy she his scared of chasing
sheep, because now she wont get shot.

I have to disagree with everyone saying this is not abuse! I have used
choke chains and prong collars on some of the dogs i train and then i put
on a halti or an easy walk harness and the different is extremely
noticeable! The dogs i train from Red Zone dogs to common household
chihuahuas are much better behaved on a device like a halti or easy walk
harness! I thank Victoria Stillwell and many other positive reinforcement
trainers for helping me tach my dog the positive way! my chihuahua was an
inch away from being put down beause she was child and male agressive and
now she is a well behaved 1 year old dog. I used prong collars and choke
chains on her because i was on the verge of breaking then i used her
methods and she is such a better dog now! along with my German short-haired
pointers (2) and cocker spaniel!

prong collars distribute preasure more evenly around the dogs troath… you
shouldnt use a prong collar if your dog pulls, or if you have a rough hand.
But it is GREAT if you want to relieve the dogs throath area from to much
preassure when out walking with a dog that does not pull. Btw If you have a
dog hat pulls, dont go trying to fix it with a bloody collar! TRAIN IT.

Do they even sell shock collars with just a vibration function? I know that
many people with deaf dogs use shock collars with vibration functions to
teach their deaf dogs recall because they can’t hear. There is a positive
use for them… I think the choke chain should be banned.

The correct term for that collar, (she calls a choke collar), is “Training
Collar”. It is not meant to be used on daily walks, but only for training
your dog. Corrections are NOT done by letting the dog choke him or
herself, but the human holding the leash does a snap with the leash, (the
collar has to be put on correctly), the dog will hear each link make a
sound when snapped, and released. People who don’t know how to use this
training device should not be using it, only then does it become abusive.

harnesses are made for PULLING!!! trying to teach a dog not too pull on a
harness is madness! total oxymoron! the ring is on the chest because its a
tracking harness… poor info

I used to put a prong collar the other way around and i modified it so that
it doesnt choke him at all because he was a rottweiler and not the
agressive type but other dogs in the park would just throw themselves on
his neck and bite him. So I put it with the prongs to the outside to make
other dogs think twice cause i was tired of taking care of my dogs wounds
after every walk…

Same thing goes for hunters that use dogs (and I know a few, some are
family members). And the relationship they have are, I would say, very
deep. So I agree 100%.

Choke collar works flawlessly with my Amstaff. She doesn’t have a problem
with it, does not show any desire to pull. Also, she follows perfectly
because of it. My amstaff (it being an amstaff and all) also seem to have
an extremely high pain threshhold, which could be why it is not bothered by
it. All this whining shit bores me.

Before I saw this video and went to the pet store, I asked the pet store
rep for a collar to stop my dog from pulling. When she suggested the choke
collar I cringed & couldn’t bare think about chocking my dog so I just got
a padded harness. Works great, she still pulls but much easier to walk now.

Ignorance must be bliss. You say Victoria stillwell doesn’t own dogs, but
she owns 2 rescue animals and has fostered over 20 animals. You may want to
fact check yourself next time. And if you really believe that a prong
collar, a choke collar or a e-collar are NEEDED to train a dog, you
probably shouldn’t own an animal. I’ve never used any of those “tools” on
my dog and I find no need to because I take the time to train and build a
relationship. What an abstract concept….

Please, share your opinion in comments.
I usually agree with her methods of training, they were tried on my poodle
and really helped. However, we have friends, who use prong and choke
collars for their dogs (even for #frenchmastiff as he is so powerful)
because there is no other way to control the dog if he/she gets mad and
pulls like a crazy one.

Yea she is wrong about most of that if you know what you are doing and know
how to use then the right way you are not doing anything wrong to the dog
pulling on his collar to teach them with a simple collar will do just as
much damage when u have a hyper dog could not disagree more about this I
say the e collar is the best to use if you make it fun for the dog mine
loves to put his on because he gets to go have fun then after work

give up or are lazy and stop the training… the type of negative fear
based dominate pack mentality training should be considered abuse and the
use of shock collars should be illegal. Not everyone can handle a dog and
not everyone should own a dog. I cant say this enough the problem is the
owners not the dogs. You should rethink your statement about Victoria being
ignorant again if you had done research at all you would see she is one of
the most knowledgeable trainers in the world

what the hell are we at a point now where people are designing torture
items for pets and calling them collars. pfffffft, absolutely ridiculus. i
mean just look at the second “collar” she shows…wtf? it looks like its
designed to torture.
