There are better ways to train a dog and if you’re not willing to put in
the time and effort, perhaps you shouldn’t have a dog.

This is a beautiful dog!! I’m one of the biggest animal lovers you will
ever meet- especially dogs. But this whole rage against shock collars is
so very moronic. It’s not as painful as it is on humans since the dogs have
fur. And to respond to the lady down below saying that positive
reinforcement works better cause this dog doesn’t listen that well-
so-the-hell what? He listens all the same eventually in the end. Some
people don’t have the time and/or money to train their dogs like that. This
guy is essentially just using it as a “safety feature” so if his dogs
starts to run away, he can stop it. I’m sure this lady would rather see
the dog do circus tricks and walk on two legs on command, but not everybody
wants their dog to have to do that

My family has had many Boxers throughout the years and we eventually took
one in from a shelter. He had been homeless most of his life and was VERY
bad. He had already been returned to the shelter once so we took it as a
challenge. We started training him in the traditional ways that everyone
knows but he was extremely wild. Before giving up on him we got one of
these collars and within a few weeks he was a well behaved, loving, member
of the family, and has since aided in the training of others

Notice that the dog’s response to cues is slow, and he barely meets the
criterion of the behavior most of the time. His recalls are reluctant, and
he often comes only part way. He doesn’t sit or stay well. These are all
characteristics of being trained with an aversive. The dog does the minimum
required to escape the shock. Compare it to positive reinforcement
training, which is coupled with eager, fast response when done well. Lots
of “willful” dogs are well trained with positive reinforcement.

I use shock collars when applicable, and I’ve never used one on a dog that
I didn’t use on my own neck first. It’s not pleasant, but I have no trouble
walking down the sidewalk while being shocked either.

Gotta say I think shock collars are the far better option. If you look at
any professional dog trainer in the US they almost always use a choke
collar (quick mild shock or being choked, which is better?) and even Ceazer
Mulan, the dog whisperer, not only uses choke collars but choke collars
with metal teeth inside to “simulate” another dog biting it’s neck.

That’s just wrong. Both shock collars and choker chains are only for lazy
people who want an easy fix. Disgusting. Lucky I don’t know you people in
real life.

Well in my opinion if one chooses to buy a shock collar that person should
wear it around their neck and see for themselves the pain it will cause.
It’s only fair. Not everyone abuses it but some will. I think that would
keep them from abusing it for the most part.

@sequoyahbean There are many effective tools to use. Why not allow people
to use what they deem best suited to them their background, personality and
purposes? Great results and happy dogs should be encouraged regardless of
chosen method in my opinion. If your getting great results I wish you the
best with your methods and animals.

The shock collar does hurt, but minimally. Most dogs only get shocked twice
and learn that when they hear the beep to come back (or obey whatever
command) without ever having to be shocked again. However, shock collars
should be used by people who understand the training method, not by people
who over-use and zap the dog whenever he looks at the owner wrong.

with two months he should listen a little better shouldn’t he?…im
thinking of getting a training collar like this because my dog already
knows all the basics but i want to teach him the more complicated things…

With the way the dog (and the person) behaves in the first few minutes
“sit, sit, sit” *no sit*, that dog honestly should not have off lead access
IMO.

@k9trainer30 well if the dog was to go after another do for an example why
would you beep the good what it has known as a good thing instead of a beep
meaning stop what you are doing or else because if the beep ment good boy
instead of stop then how would you control the dog without shocking it all
the time ?

Its a sport hunter 800 800 metres range; can have two dogs on 1 collar..
The dog looks forward to it going on…it means a walk and he is well happy
to wear it….. I was unsure because of the bleating about cruelty: its not
cruel and the dog has benefited from it immeasurably
